    Romeo x Juliet Discussion

Romeo×Juliet (ロミオ×ジュリエット ,Romio to Jurietto?) is a TV anime series, very loosely based on William Shakespeare's classic play, Romeo and Juliet, along with numerous references and characters from other Shakespearian plays. Though the anime borrows from Shakespeare's story, the manga adaptation differs greatly from the original. It premiered from April 4, 2007 across Japan on CBC, and later on TBS, KBS Kyōto and SUN-TV. It ended on September 26, 2007 for a total of 24 episodes. In 2009, Romeo x Juliet will be dubbed into English and released by FUNimation Entertainment. [From wikipedia]

When Shakespeare and Anime collide they create something like this. This anime had garnered quite a cult following, so feel free to discuss this anime!

I just got around to watching the first episode, and so far so good! This has been a very nerdy week thus far. LOL.

I've been meaning to watch this anime, as I've read the manga. I didn't really think the manga was very good. However, apparently the manga came out after the anime. I've read somewhere that it was basically supposed to tie up some loose ends from the anime.

Hopefully I'll get around to seeing it.

I really need to get around to watching this anime, because I love almost everything Gonzo puts out. [Except Blassreiter. I'm lookin' at you.] I have to watch Wolf's Rain and Gundam Wing with Chris first, but afterwards I wouldn't mind giving this anime a spin.

And, Nami, just about any manga that comes out after the anime is awful. xD I've read Evangelion ones, Gundam Wing ones, Samurai 7 ones, and they were just BAD.

See... I thought it was just me that thought that the Samurai 7 manga was terrible as all get out. =\

    Wink

I haven't really ever read many manga adaotions of anime either, they turn out to be quite... lame >_>

That aside, I loved this show. I loved the Fantasy, Technological spin that Gonzo gave this classic play. And I actually PREFERRED the anime's ending to the original play's ending.

The Ending was sad, and impactful, but it wasn't stupid in the same way I felt the play was. "Oh MY GAWD, I'm late, NOW I MUST COMIT SUICIDE INSTEAD OF CHECKING AND MAKING SURE IF THE OTHER PERSON IS DEAD".... XD

But yeah, beautiful Animation, great story (I watched this one in HD, in Japanese Audio with English Fansubbing) and well, I dunno about the dub, but the sub was really one of the best anime I've seen by Gonzo.

Oh whoa, I didn't know the manga came AFTER the anime. I actually thought the few chapters I read were pretty good to be honest >_>

I really should watch this anime one of these days...

I may need to get around to watching this sometime, perhaps after the Winter anime season is over. Now that it is dubbed by Funimation and on Youtube for free (I'd rather not download licensed anime), I have an excuse to watch it. It look interesting, and I simply love anime that take nodes from pre-existing material, particularly famous older tales like Romeo and Juliet. If only there were an anime based on one of Edgar Poe's fantastical poems!
