    Death Trance & Versus

Since some of you guys seemed interested in Chocolate, I'm posting up a thread for two other ass-kicking martial arts movies: Death Trance, and Versus. Versus came first, and is a bit less 'sparkly' than Death Trance, but it's a great flick none the less, and Tak Sakaguchi, a real-life street fighter who was discovered during street brawl and then turned into an action star, is quite the fun actor to watch. He choreographs most of the stunts in these movies, and his characters are just...bad ass! Death Trance's soundtrack was also done by the J-Rock band Dir en grey, so that alone should be enough reason to check it out. Here's the trailers:

    Versus:
    BORKED

    Death Trance:
    BORKED

Sorry for the bad quality of the trailers, I couldn't find much better. xD Hope you enjoyed them anyway! Let me know if you guys decide to watch it! Versus is a decent watch, but Death Trance is a must!

Versus was pretty good, man. It reminded me of Devil May Cry in its stylish combat scenes, which makes Chris a happy camper.

Speaking of Chocolate, though. That movie was pretty damn good. Has it reached our side of the globe yet? 'cause... I'd really like to get my hands on the actual DVD, with better subtitles. =\

-Nod.- I watched Chocolate on Netflix's Instant Viewing, so it's definitely been released stateside.

Versus was a lot of fun, but if you enjoyed that, then you really need to watch Death Trance. It's even better, and Tak Sakaguchi's character is even funnier. xD

I'll definitely do that! And it's good to hear that Chocolate is stateside. It deserves the attention.

I am jealous of all these guys If I could do half of what they could do id be like Bruce lee xD enter championships and demolish everyone xD than die doing a stunt. That is how a real man should die.

Dude, I just watched Death Trance! And it was awesome! I liked the fact that the flick was ambiguous with the time period (well... up until motorbikes start showing up, anyway). One thing, though...

    WTF IS UP WITH THAT ENDING, KENDRA?! ARE THEY GOING TO MAKE A SEQUEL?! JESUS CHRIST! I WAS LIKE "WAIT IS THAT IT?! I HAVE TO SEE THIS!" ;______;

Like, dude... she goes up to heaven and starts killing angels, and then he flies up there to fight her and then it just goes off?! ;___; There better be a follow up somewhere, or in the works!

Haha, I'm glad you liked it! Tak Sakaguchi is a bad ass.

Sadly, I don't think they're going to be doing a sequel. Versus was a bit ambiguous with the ending as well. I think we're just supposed to assume that there's a big war in the heavens, but that our relatively feminine bad ass hero is going to save the day with his newfound powers.

Tak Sakaguchi really is fun to watch, though. He was in the live action version of the anime Basilisk, which is known as Shinobi, and he played a mute, but awesome character. xD I'll see if I can pull a scene from it.

    BORKED

The video is spoilerific, but...Shinobi isn't that great of a movie, and Yashamaru [his character] is all that really interested me. xD You were warned! Also, for who he's supposed to be in Basilisk:

    BORKED

    Enjoy it!

    Just finished Death Trance...

Holy Crap that was a badass movie! I loved it. The fact that they used Diru for the soundtrack is great, especially that when the fight scenes came on, I could sing with the lyrics!

My favorite characters are probably that little girl,(soooo cute, and deadly!) those two feather-ninja ladies,(lol) and Grave.

I'm pissed. I can't find very many pics about the movie online at all...

I'm glad you liked the movie! I knew it'd totally be up your alley!

That little girl really WAS adorable. Even Tak Sakaguchi [the main character] was getting teary-eyed when the filming was over, because of how cute she was, haha.

I just love that Tak Sakaguchi choreographs and performs all of his own stunts. It also helps that he's a good looking guy. xD He's what I'd imagine a real-life anime character would like like.

The movie was awesome. I really didn't like the Priest-kid, but...I don't think anyone did. Everyone else was awesome.

And, yeah, Dir en grey's music made it AWESOME. When they played III D Empire, I was -so- pumped. xD

OK, I feel less nerdy thinking that throughout the entire film, now. LOL.

I really, really, really hope they shoot for a sequel, man. I know the ending was probably some homage to like the old Wuxia films that would end that way, but GOD I would kill for a sequel.

I don't think there will be a sequel. =/ Versus ended in a very similar fashion, and there was no sequel for that.

I just want to see Tak Sakaguchi in more movies! He really has the face and presence for awesome roles, but he's been doing lots of cameos since Death Trance. I made the mistake of watching Tokyo Gore Police, and he had a cameo in it, rofl. I was watchng it going: "I know that face from anywhere!"

Don't watch that movie though. Seriously. XD

Tak Sakaguchi was awesome in Shinobi, too. But, again, just a supporting role.

Did I talk about Tokyo Gore Police already? I swore I wrote a review here not too long ago.

But what are you speaking, woman?! People HAVE to watch this movie! There's a man-eating VAGINA AND PENIS IN IT!

ROFL. I got through the opening scene and was like: "...Yeah, not in the mood." You have to be in a seriously random, or batshit crazy mood to enjoy that movie. XD

I'm sure it'd be a fun watch with some heavily intoxicated friends while sitting back with some popcorn. xD But, otherwise...ehhhhh.

    Rofl. xD

If you're into that kind of stuff, I recommend you watch the movie 'Teeth.' You weirdo! xD

That aside, I'm really getting the urge to watch Death Trance again. The fight scenes in that movie are always so awesome to watch!

    FOR SHAME. You hypocrites. xD

And apparently it was a COMEDY, too.

In Tak Sakaguchi news, I NEED to see this movie:

Apparently it's a satire of the 'Samurai School' manga, and it's directed by and stars Tak Sakaguchi. I'm so hunting this down.

    .................................

The tagline is "BE A MAN!"

Aside from that cool ass pose he's doing, that tag line is enough for me to check this movie out. If you find it before I do, let me know!

Haha. I found it on Netflix, so I'll be renting it the next chance I get. As for the 'be a man!' tagline, that's why it's a satire. xD It's making fun of the whole 'macho' idea of 'be a man!' in the 70's.

Looks like a lot of fun, so, I'm totally down.

Ahhh, I kind of figured that might have been satirizing some Martial Arts exploitation stuff. That will make it even awesomer. And it's good to know that it's on Netflix! I shall rent it soooon.
