Escaflowne was one of those...hit or miss animes. It had so much potential, but it was sort of...screwed over by the cast and the annoying love triangles. Allen Schezar and Dilandau were the only reasons I watched that show at all.

As for favorite characters, Franz and Andrea were mine!

    CAREFUL NOW.

But to be fair, they're two VERY different animes. Cowboy Bebop is more of an action Anime, and Gankutsuou is a drama one. It's too different to really compare.
That's true. But I wasn't comparing them. Fuyu was. I was just warning him of his brush with blasphemy.

And the same goes for Trigun. Best be respectin'.

I'm thinking that I might actually start over and watch the whole thing again; see if I notice things I didn't notice the first time round.

That's pretty much what I did. I was right obsessed with it for a good two or three months. I caught a number of new things, mostly because the first time around I had watched it with my cousin and you know how distracting watching stuff with friends or family can be.

I have that anime in my computer for the longest time, but I haven't got around to watch it. I've read the original book for English during high school, and it was one of the more interesting ones. When it first came out, I was a little surprised that they made an anime of it. My reaction was "HOLY WAA? I SHOULD HAVE WATCHED IT INSTEAD OF READ ITTTT!!" But I'm sure it is totally different, and I would have epically failed the test if I based all my answers on the anime.

It seems like they are making animes adaptations of a lot of western literatures. (Like Les Misérables and Romeo and Juliet) Not that I am complaining. It sure made me a lot more interested in those school assigned readings.

Go for it! If nothing else, you'll see a lot of random animation quirks you haven't noticed before. XD! Like, in the first disc...there's sooo many things going on in the background, but you don't notice unless you're looking for it.

-Nod.- I was the same way. I had actually watched the anime for the first time with my mother. We would wait for each dvd to be released monthly by Geneon, and we'd rent it and watch it. xD

I've probably watched it a good 3 times afterward, and I've watched the first disc a good 8 times at various friend's houses or anime conventions...just trying to get them into the Anime.

Haha, yeah, the anime takes a LOT of liberties, but it held true to a lot of story elements as well. Since you've read the book, you'd definitely be able to pick up on the similarities well. Gankutsuou focuses a lot on Albert and the other kids, so it's part of the reason why liberties were taken...because the original story didn't really focus on those characters.

It's definitely worth the watch, so you should watch it as soon as you can!

And, you're right about those western adaptations. Gankutsuou and Romeo x Juliet were both made by Studio GONZO, and they also made Samurai 7, so I think they're just on a 'classic story' kick.

I can see why they focus on Albert instead. Anime tends to shun away from main characters who are older than 25. Oh, I think they did the same thing for Les Misérables. The main character was Cosette rather than Jean. And I will definitely watch Gankutsuou when I have time! XD

As for classical literature adaptation, it would be funny if they have an anime of Lord of the Flies. (Oh wait, nvm, there was the whole Battle Royal novel, manga, and movie deal. I could not even last through one chapter of the manga without cringing.)

I'm bumping up this thread because I know a few of you who begun to watch this series, or I've been bugging you to! So, any updates? xD

It really is a great show, and you -all- need to give it a try if you enjoy plot-driven animes.

I finally got around to *ahem* "obtaining" the series, and I must say, this worries me.

ROFL. Haha, wow. Well, -some- of those tags are accurate, but not to those extremes. xD And...disney? Lol.

Let me know when you start watching! It's too bad you're watching it in Japanese, as the English version was actually pretty damned good. [And it has your Johnny Yong Bosch in it. xD] But, the Japanese cast did a good job as well.

I'm really tempted to do it myself, haha. I love Gankutsuou, it's really an amazing series.

I'm swapping out for a Dual Audio version.

I think that, technically, I'm not allowed to post here. But eh, I thought I would show Kendra something I found.

Possibly because she still hasn't seen it yet. xD And I hope you're starting to watch them too, BJ!

But, Crystal, thanks for the links! Those cosplays were awesome! =)

Haha. That would be the nail on the proverbial head. x3
And you're welcome. Saw them and immediately thought of you.

I switched to a dual audio torrent so I could get the dub (I believe I mentioned this before).
    It's still downloading.

I want an update on this! Are you still downloading it, and if not, have you started watching it yet?
