I tried to install a Spoiler BB Code and it didn't work, so I'll try an alternative and see if it does the job.
As for spambots, I installed another mod to try and get rid of them, but seeing as how it hasn't stopped them, I'll look for some more mods to add, and I'll IP ban all of the previous ones, incase some of the bots are repeats.
Regarding the spam bots, check the likes of the email domains to find any patterns in the spam profiles. Doing register restrictions on these patterns is one of the most effective methods to combat spam.

Will do. =) I've already banned several different domains, as well as individual e-mails, and performed IP bans, and changed to ReCaptcha + Image Verification. Hopefully this will help a little. I'll keep an eye out for any other spam prevention mods, but there don't seem to be many yet for vb 3.8
I don't really know if this is possible but I'll give it a try. This suggestion has varying degrees of complexity depending on what your willing to do/can do. Phase One will indicate a simplistic form and Phase 2 and up will indicate things to add on that will build off of the initial idea
Phase One
Phase Two
- Create a section of the User Profile specifically designed for listing what animes that person has watched, manga read, and games played. Either by selecting them from a list or having people manually type them in.
- They both have advantages and disadvantages. With selecting them from a list it will look crisper and cleaner when displayed because name would match up between profiles instead of Original Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam and it would be in alphabetical order and this method is also probably required inorder to do Phase Two. The disadvantage is it is a lot more work but you could always just start by listing the major things then having someone inform a mod when an anime is missing from the list then group update the lists once a week/month.
- The advantage of typing them in is less work and the disadvantages are the same as the advantages for selecting from a list just opposite.
Phase Three
- Allow members the ability to slect if they want to view the anime/manga/game list of another person by genre, director, publishing date/etc.
Phase Four
- Allow members to select from a list of anime/manga/games and then have displayed to them all of the members that have also seen that anime/manga/game and display any pertinent and active or inactive threads.
Phase Five (Less important stuff but something to consider for further down the road)
- Allow members to also add favorite anime/game songs/soundtracks to display on their profile and then do much the same for this as done with anime/manga/games seen.
I think that more or less covers it. If I think of something else that I have forgotten to add to this suggestion I will add it.
- Provide basic information about the selected item like studio/director/characters/etc
- Or as an alternative provide links to more information about selected item.
- When a person is selecting what animes/manga/games they have seen for displaying on their profile allow them the ability to display how much they liked the item like next to the item it would say on their profile either 1-10 or Fav.
- When viewing someone else's list of anime/manga/games/songs/soundtracks have the items that they have in common highlighted.

Those are some pretty good suggestions. It's a lot of work, but if you want this kind of thing Kendra just let me know, I already have a potential ideas for it. Lol.
@Judge: Wow, thanks a lot for putting so much time into a suggestion like that. For now, I will be sure to add more profile fields for those areas. ^^ [+1 Post Rank.]
@Vangs: Once we recruit staff and you become the Coding Wizard Repair Man of Rising Star Forums [has a nice ring to it, eh? xD], then I'll definitely put this on your list of things to do. I thank you for your willingness to help out, you rock. xD
Edit: I actually see that I can create a drop-down menu. The issue is that it has a limited amount of choices, only 31. For now I'll keep it as a field where people can input things themselves. But I'll definitely make more changes later on. I'll make threads for favorite animes, mangas, and games and make a working list off of those.
I think we'll keep the ideas as a surprise for you guys for now. :P
Of course, if Kendra wants to tell you, then that's a different matter entirely.
Just throwing this out there..
A lot of forums have installed RPG's on there forum. Some decide not to use them at all mainly because they want just a relaxed forum. Now I think if you added an RPG on this site, it would attract more members to the site, and the RPG could include images and part of its storyline to animes and mangas and anything else for that matter. Anyways, i know that VB has a good mod for an RPG and i just think it would be really cool to have one. To add to this, RPG Inferno has a free version called RPG Inferno Lite. It would be a good tester to see if people will actually play it before you consider buying it.
EDIT: Hmmm RPG Inferno Lite might not work seeing as its old.
Of course to prevent people from just joining for the RPG, you can make it so you need a 50 post limit to be able to play the RPG. This has been effective on a few sites i've been on.
Also..
I may be blind, but if there isn't one, i would really love to have a top 5 recent thread mod. Even a link would be helpful like i've seen on a few sites. I like to be able to see recent threads that people have posted on.
If possible could we add Forum sections for music and literature? That would be awesome to have.

This is definitely a good suggestion, and one I will put a lot of thought into considering. I've wanted to have an RPG on a forum of mine for a while, but it does require a lot of work, and RPG Inferno, though a decent program, was just so lacking. Perhaps as activity here increases, and I have some funds available, I might be able to pay Vangs to create an RPG program for us, because he's a very skilled coder. Until then, I'll be more than happy to entertain any other possible notions of either RPGs, or unique approaches to RPing that can help to make RSF a more unique and welcoming community.
There is not a mod added here yet, and the main reason was because the mods I've found are just so unattractive and take up so much space. I was also wishing to hold off on adding this mod until we do have some more members and activity, otherwise it'd look a bit lonely. [xD]Also..

Also, the 'New Posts' tab at the top should be helpful until I add this mod. ^^

I will definitely either add a new forum for this, or create an area for these discussions to take place. Since it's still an infant forum, I didn't want to clutter it up with too many forums and sub forums, until each forum currently is more fleshed out.If possible could we add Forum sections for music and literature? That would be awesome to have.
Thank you for your suggestions, I look forward to any others you may have, I always have an open mind and listening ear for feedback. =)
@Judge: I haven't forgotten you! I will add up the new Profile Fields for Soundtracks asap.
I saw someone mention an RPG. On that note I'd like to say that I've never seen an RPG actually get into a working state. So, if we could, then that's great. However, I also feel like it's time that might be spent focusing on something else.
http://dev.p3tz.com/index.php?page=vbpetz
That is the p3tz system, which I have seen implemented on a site. It was loads of fun battling tonberries with other members (it was an FF site, so we had tonberries, chocobos, moogles, cactuars, etc) and it's one of my fondest memories of the site. I think if we were to implement it here then it could at least be something for members to do while they wait for the RPG. I do know, however, that it requires someone talented in flash. I know nothing of flash, so I don't know why, but that's why I gave the link.![]()
Thats similar to the pets you can get in the RPG Inferno. If the RPG Inferno Lite still is in affect, i would suggest trying it out if it works until we can get a coder for the site. The Lite version is free, its just a few years old.. But i like the petz idea..
Well, Looks nice. And I'm not sure if it'll do... but I've worked with flash (action script included, obviously, xD) for a couple years. But the counter part is that I haven't worked with Flash for quite a while, D=)
Oh and a suggestion.
I'm not sure if it's really essential... but a "General Entartainment" area might be useful... you know... Non Gaming and Non Japanese entertainment, xD

More of a bratty whine from someone who wants to win goodies than a legitimate complaint I'm ashamed to say. In regards to the points that are counted for the current forum contest, I've noticed a lot of spammy-ish posts and even unnecessary double posting made be various users that still get counted towards their over-all tally. Now I know I try not not to spam in areas without saying something relevant to what the thread is, but I know I'm not perfect and can accept my posts that fall under such categories to be discounted, but then I would want the same to be done for other users. Simply put, I'm gonna be peeved if someone who ends up winning the contest made useless posts and didn't learn how to the use the edit button where as other actually try to contribute decent posts and what nots.
Again, more of a whine than anything else. I doubt there's a mod availble for such a function, but just asking for consideration when looking at WHAT posts gets counted when the contest ends. Thanks~
Hi, sorry about my lacking presence at RSF. I got busy with my off-line life, and though it's settled a bit, there's not much to do here without people posting (which is kind of my fault >.<)
If you do wanna make contact, here are some ways:
- PM me
- Email me: mellusia@gmail.com
- http://mellusia.livejournal.com
Again, I'm sorry, but I look forward to hearing from you guys!
I know that this is a concern, so if the contest is close, it will come down to quality of posts. Very soon I will be creating Official Forum Rules, because RSF is getting to the point where relaxed rules of 'Respect each other' are no longer effective. Spam and acceptable posts will be considered.
Also, there is a mod available for VBExperience that gives points for editing posts, so I'll be sure to look into it. =)
Hiya again. I was just wondering if it's possible to show what reps we have given to others in the past along with the rep we've received in the user cp side. I just wanna keep track of who I rep and for what reason, that's all.

Yah, I'd actually brought that up when we talked about the rep system, but I never saw the option after you fixed the other bug. Would be appreciated, Kendra! =D
