    FFS...More Pokemon

So most of you have probably heard the news, they're remaking Pokemon Gold and Silver...and the remakes have horribly corny names too, "Heart Gold" and "Soul Silver." At least the logo for Gold looks kinda cool anyway...

So what are your thoughts on this?

Personally I wish they'd stop. They keep turning out halfassed Mystery Dungeon installments, they already made Platinum (always the third wheel, just like Yellow, Crystal and Emerald were)...and now we get remakes of Gold and Silver. It's just unnecessary.

Honestly I wish Nintendo and Game Freak would try something new for once, namely, an MMO. I don't know if they realize just how much money that would make, or if they're content making new installments and remaking older games because it's easy and rakes in money just the same.

Then again...this is Nintendo we're talking about. They can barely manage good multiplayer on the Wii, so I very much doubt they'd be able to handle running an MMO. Lord knows they'd find some way to put friend codes in it anyway, or find other idiotic way to screw it up.
I see what you did there.

Actually, I haven't heard about this, but it sounds promising. The remakes of red and blue were both very good, and I still own one of them. Remakes of Gold and Silver sound like they could be excellent (Although I have to get Silver since Heart Gold sounds far too lame). The second generation was excellent, and I think it'll be the shit. An MMO would certainly be interesting, though. o.O

I don't really see the point, honestly.

    I mean... WHY?

For the 'storyline'? The Pokémon? What? It's ridiculous if you ask me. I feel like the gaming industry is taking too many cues from Hollywood with all of these remakes as of late. Of course, remakes in gaming isn't a new thing, but every month now I seem to hear about a remake of a classic game. For... no reason whatsoever.

Gold and Silver don't need to be ressurected. They were pretty cool, but those chapters were over and done with. It's kinda ridiculous.

Pokémon are starting to become just like any infestation - there's a lot of them, more are coming every day, and it's impossible to get rid of them.

I very much enjoyed the original Pokémon games (I played Red and... Silver I think, but memory may be failing me) but eventually a game is just DONE. I wish they could accept that some time.

What?! I LOVE the fact that they are remakin Gold and Silver. They were by far the best of the Pokemon games. I'd much prefer a remake of those games than another new pokemon game that is probably goin to suck. -_-

The thing is, these are going to be compatible with Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum even though you are starting off again in Johto. Yes it is kind of backpedaling with the games but it's the same when they did Fire Red and Leaf Green.
I actually plan on getting these, being the big Poke-nerd I am. Plus, I loved Gold and Silver.
    Cosplays in the works:
    Fuuka Yamagishi - P3
    Naoto Shirogane - P4
    Bunnysuit Mikuru - TMoHS
    Child Medusa - Soul Eater

They should have stopped after red and blue. Personally, I didn't mind yellow that much because it followed the loved television show. But after the first 150 they started butchering character designs of the new pokemon and you couldn't play as Ash. I mean most of the pokemon look like robots now...

Yeah I said they should make a pokemon MMO too. It would really work very well as a MMO. And they could make a huge sum of money off it too. It's a shame.

I think the main issue with this is that Pokemon games are catered to kids, not older teenagers and young adults, so because they know kids will buy anything with 'Pokemon' on it, they keep doing what they're doing.

I think it's possible that they don't really realize they're more mature audience with these games, which is why they're not really changing their ways.

As for these Pokemon games, ALL I want is a game with Ash, Brock, Misty, and the original Team Rocket. That's all that would get me to buy a new game. xD

Like a pokemon turn-based RPG. Upgrading swords and guns, random encounters with pokemon being decimated by Ash's Diamond Sword. Mwhahaha. That'd be awesome.

Wait, wait... they remade Red and Green, too? LOL

People have no creativity anymore. Well, that, plus it's just easier to remake stuff than try to be creative.

See I always hear alot of people saying Gold/Silver/Crystal were the best...I dunno. I mean I liked them alot, but Blue and Red will always be my favorite. Probably the nostalgia factor.

So you can trade over pokemans from Diamond/Pearl/Platinum then? Well I like that idea...but I think I'd like it better if they'd just release a game with the ENTIRE Pokemon world that let you travel everywhere and capture every single Pokemon. Granted that would be quite the undertaking, and might be too much for the DS to handle...I dunno. If something like that was made, I think it'd be suited for console.

    Maybe? Who knows xD

Yellow made me so angry. Having Pikachu follow you around was alot more annoying than I thought it would be, and there weren't enough differences from Red and Blue. I basically felt like I'd wasted my money :/

Great minds think alike...pity nobody at Nintendo or Game Freak shares our sentiment.

That could very well be a problem. Alot of people who grew up with Pokemon still play it, but it's sort of like a guilty pleasure, most won't openly admit it unless it's on the internets.

On the other hand, it's not like little kids are unfamiliar with MMOs and the internet. You've got stuff like Gaia and Maple Story, and of course WoW, which probably has its fair share of little kids. And how many kids out there have an XBL subscription? So really, I don't know why Nintendo would shy away from giving kids a Pokemon MMO.

As for these Pokemon games, ALL I want is a game with Ash, Brock, Misty, and the original Team Rocket. That's all that would get me to buy a new game. xD
    That was all I wanted as a kid...would have been so awesome ;_;

Yep, Fire Red and Leaf Green. They had some nice additions, but pretty bad remixes of the original soundtrack.
I see what you did there.

I dunno, I'm not annoyed with the idea of a remake. Not hopping in joy, but I don't think it's so bad. I mean, maybe they just want to gear it towards the younger generation who never played the game and can't be bothered to buy a GBC just to play them if they only own a DS *shrugs*

I played Silver and loved it, but I guess I'd look into getting the Gold remake to see the differences from Silver. As well as with the remake, there's more opportunities in changes. Like, making Celibi actually accessible for one -_-
Hi, sorry about my lacking presence at RSF. I got busy with my off-line life, and though it's settled a bit, there's not much to do here without people posting (which is kind of my fault >.<)

Another reason as to why they do remakes, it's because they know it will bring in money. People will always buy these games.

Well I don't think Blue/Red were supposed to be different in any other way other than the pokemon you can catch. That feature promotes the "trading feature" they really wanted to get into. The human interaction part. Can't catch 150 unless you trade with others... Or buy two games.

Yellow was fan service. But still, I'm sure many people enjoyed it very much. And I don't mind it at all since it's still the original 150.

Personally, I'm excited for the remakes. I can't play Gold/Silver on my DS, so I'll gladly purchase the newer versions.

Though I agree that Nintendo's time and resources could be focused on a more...different sort of Pokemon game. I'm not sure how I feel about an MMO, but I've often wondered why they haven't created a Pokemon game for the Wii that functions in a manner similar to that of the handheld titles. 3D environments for exploration, pokemon encounters and pokemon battles. Could be pretty cool.

I certainly won't turn my nose up to any remake they dish out, though.

I think an MMO would be interesting if they found a way to make it dynamic, like you walk around like normal MMOs and you command your pokemon in realtime! I still like pokemon, I just wish they would stop making new ones! I liked the first 150, I liked the second 100 or however many. The third batch I sorta accepted, but after that it just got redickulous! But I agree, they're remaking it cuz they know people will buy it, and it makes sense for the kids who didn't have a GBC but wanna play the older ones.

Yeah, I figured that much. I noticed that it's a surefire way to get a game sold, especially when the work is practically laid out for you.

I've been dreaming of a Pokemon MMO for years, man. LOL I heard there was going to be a fanmade version a few years ago (around the same time the fanmade DBZ game "Bid For Power" came out), but sadly it never blossomed. If it was actually made into a MMO, though... I would so be there.

Ugh...you just reminded me of their bullshit excuse for why they won't make an MMO:

"Trading is a core concept of Pokémon. So when you're trading, you meet with a friend and decide which one you want and which one they want. I would like to emphasize real-world communication. You don't see each other online."

Riiiight...they want real-world interaction. That's why Diamond/Pearl/Platinum let you trade online. Not to mention, when I was a kid I barely knew anyone who actually dragged around link cables with them and traded Pokemon. More often than not, they'd buy both versions, then a link cable, and just use their original Gameboy and their GB Pocket (or in my case, GBC). Or people would just buy a Gameshark and hack the game.

Yep. That social interaction aspect reeeeeeally worked out.

    Emulation can work wonders.

I'd love a full-fledged Pokemon game on consoles. None of that Pokemon Snap crap they tried on the 64, none of that Pokemon Stadium crap, and none of this Pokemon Ranch virtual pet crap on the WiiWare. The franchise has so much untapped potential...but I suppose as long as people keep eating up all the handheld games, Nintendo will never have a reason to make Pokemon something bigger and better :/

...erm, well actually, now that I think of it...the Pokemon Stadium franchise COULD be awesome if it was made well. Pity it's not.

Wow... that really is lame. I mean, I understand what they're trying to do, but if I can trade Pokemon with people online on the Gamecube version of Pokemon stadium...why not give me an MMO? It makes no sense.

kids will buy anything with 'Pokemon' on it
I am one (i feel like a kid when i see Pokémons)!!

It would be a great idea to Nintendo Headmasters/Administrators to take a look in internet a little bit to see a little of the fans opinion. That can bring their desired money.
