    Sony's Crucifixion Continues

    http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/a...y-website.aspx

Sony has had a lot to deal with as of late, and matters keepp getting worse and worse for them. Once again, they've been hacked. The hackers, a group known as 'lulzsec', have posted a million or so usernames and passowords of users in US, Netherlands, and Belgium. How do you feel about this? They claim their reasoning was to prove to the world how weak Sony's infrastructure is. While they've effectively done that, we've also had more than enough proof of that over the past few months without their help.

So, how do you feel about this? Personally, I think it's about time. I used to lvoe Sony in the 90s, but as of late their exclusives don't appeal to me, and their console feels more like a blu-ray player that can also play games, rather than a gaming console that can also play blu-rays. Nintendo will be innovative as ever in their next console, however as always they will appeal to an entirely different audience than the other "contestants" of the industry. Microsoft will likely pull far ahead, considering that I have no doubt they'll have any RROD-type issues nicked in the butt before they release the system. Which leaves Sony. What will they do? Continue to one-on-one it with Microsoft? Or will they move over into a home-entertainment system basis and let another gaming hardware company take their place?

Now would be an excellent time for some unheard of company to announce a console. Afterall, if things keep up at this pace, Sony is cooked. What do you all think about Sony's situation, and where do you want things to head?

I can't find the listing of those millions of names and passwords released-did it get taken offline?

While Sony's security does appear to be an issue, the fact is that hackers are the ones causing shit, so my anger is with them, not Sony.

And really, I'll just never understand the mindset. It's one thing to say "hyuk, hyuk, I got in" but it's another to actually gather information. What's the goal? to show a company's flaws? Are they trying to help Sony increase their security? Or do they wanna take 'em down?
Hi, sorry about my lacking presence at RSF. I got busy with my off-line life, and though it's settled a bit, there's not much to do here without people posting (which is kind of my fault >.<)

I think the issue lies in Sony on this. I highly doubt that hackers haven't tried crashing the Wii's live, or the 360's live, or Netflix streaming, or Comcast, Clear, Clearwire, etc. themselves. The fact of the matter is, hackers go for the big goals once they've made sure they can handle small stuff. But the only company that's taking blow after blow is Sony, because their infrastructure is shaky at best. With how bad console wars are, I bet more than a dozen hackers who love the PS3 have tried taking down xbox live just to "even the score". Microsoft makes their users pay for live, and they're getting their money's worth because they have a strong enough system to defend itself more than adequately. And Nintendo's online system may not be used much, but Nintendo doesn't fuck around- I bet that shit is impenetrable.

And considering it was a million usernames and passwords, I'm sure Sony had it down within minutes. The point is: Sony's network is EASILY hacked, and what started as one hacker (or one group of hackers) "just seeing if they could" has led to like, five or more hacks of their system as others test their hand at it. And they took down PSN for weeks to fix the problem, and it's already been hacked again because they didn't fix the core issue, as it seems.

I feel like with how much gaming is becoming dependant on online features and especially online multiplayer,, Sony needs to step their shit up or drop from gaming. Square-Enix is pretty damn arrogant- maybe they'll shift into hardware. Hahaha.

Well, just for the sake of saying it, the stolen usernames and such was from the music site. PSN (afaik) hasn't been hacked since it's been up, right?

But I do agree that Sony needs to shape up, and fast. Their brand is starting to lose cred >.<

(Of course one could argue: how many people actually did give up PSN in favour of other services available since the attack?)
