    Kingdom Hearts

Please, please, please tell me I'm not the only one here who loves this series. You can say whatever the hell you want about "Nomura's designs" (which I really like actually >_>) or "milking the FF characters" or whatever, but I love this series so much.

The story is so incredibly enthralling, the characters with actual meaningful lines to say are awesome, the music, holy crap, the music is superb! Yeah, there are FF cameos, but that don't have much to do with the story. Take them away, and KH is still an awesome series.

Sora is just...I don't know how to describe this guy. He's like the perfect main character in my opinion. I can't think of anything I dislike about him.

Riku's role is really impressive as well since it varies a lot, and his devotion as a friend is really something

And that's another thing I love about KH; it's not about romance, it's about FRIENDS! There's implied stuff all over the place, but friendship is the central theme of this series.

I'm eagerly awaiting for 358/2 Days North American release date, but the Japan one doesn't come out 'til May 30, so it'll probably be a while >_<

I really tried to get into these games, but I just couldn't do it. It had such a winning combination of epic Disney and Final Fantasy, but it just didn't mix well in my mind. I think all of the goodness that the darker plots had to offer were just overshadowed by the cutesy animation style and awkward execution. =/

I can understand why people like them, I just couldn't get into it myself.

    Kingdom Hearts > Final Fantasy.

I've never been more addicted to a game than I was to Kingdom Hearts when it first released. Completely obsessed.

Since playing Kingdom Hearts 2 (good game, but not nearly as good as the first, in my opinion), my interest in the series has declined, but it still ranks as one of my all-time favorite series.

Great characters, story, worlds, soundtrack, etc. The combat is repetitive and the game itself is too easy, but those are minor complaints when you look at the entire picture.

Oh, man. I miss playing Kingdom Hearts. Man, it's been years since I last played it, if it wasn't for my brother, I would still be playing it.

I agree 100% with you there. But than again, DK, how many times did you play it? Hahaha

Haha I definitely wasn't lying when I said I was obsessed with it. I'd say I've logged in well over 500 hours playing the first game alone. Quite a lot of Kingdom Hearts action. For some reason, the game just wouldn't get old. If not for Kingdom Hearts 2, I'd probably still be playing. Once I got done with that game, I didn't have much desire to go back and play the first one again. Not exactly sure why...

I'd recommend getting a PS2 or PS3 in order to replay Kingdom Hearts, but I'm not sure how high that is on your priority list.

yeah! you're not alone dude! i'm here with you loving
this series.. haha i can't even wait for kingdom hearts 3
to arrive.. but i wonder if the layout of KH3 would be
the same as of the other 2 KH's for the PS2 platform.. hmmm.

I really liked the games and its plot was definitely intriguing. Maybe Sora could've been a bit more 'grown-up' but besides that I liked even the way it was designed. Its fighting style was probably my favorite in many games that I've played. And the soundtracks A-mazing. I've always liked Disney so to be able to play with and as the Disney characters was a plus for me. I can understand why a lot of people wouldn't have liked this game but I get sick of playing totally serious games and no comedy or cute things going on.

I completely agreed with you and its one of my favorite aspects of this game. You can totally relate to going so far for your dear friends.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days North American release date was set for September 29, 2009...so just a couple of more weeks xD

In hopes of stimulating convo, I've been wondering about something. I've been told a lot that KH1 was better than KH2, but to me it's the reverse. Of course I absolutely love KH1 no questions, but in my eyes KH2 set the bar higher. Better graphics, an improved gameplay, a deeper story and more developed character interactions and relationships.

I feel that way too. I've already play KH2 more times than KH1 without really knowing way. I just can't go back easily to KH1 now Dx

In all honestly, because KH2 is a direct sequel, it would be wrong to disregard KH1. I've heard people say that KH2 does a decent set-up of the prior games' story (through Roxas' dreams and such) but honestly, if you're gonna play KH2, make sure you play KH1 first, you know?

On on that note, I'll concede this is more the KH fan in me than a gamer saying this, but play CoM too if you can. The story does actually connect between KH1 and KH2 and explains a whole lot of how things begin in KH2 (Sora and co waking up in pods). More so, you play through Riku's POV. He's got his own epic story to play through and also explains what he'd been upto himself.

It's natural that anyone plays KH2 more than the first one. When you look at the games together you'll find that Kingdom Hearts 2 is just... vastly superior. They improved some aspects of the combat system, there was a little more to do, and the story, to me, was better. It was everything that a sequel was supposed to be.

In my jurisdiction, KH1 was better than KH II because of the various side-quests and overall replay value. KH2, however, threw in the "easy button" for new players to the series, and it made people who lived through the hardships of the original iffy on that. I just feel that KH2 was....too easy. I died like, once on that game. Even on the "Proud" mode.

Besides all of that opinion jazz, I honestly just got back into the series. Why? well, after years of giving up on KH2 after it being repetitive and long to level up the drive system, my friend finally asks to borrow KH1. After about 2 years of him having it, he finally asks me for help on it. Now, I could have easily declined, but after the thousands of hours I plugged into KH1, I've decided to help him. Once I figured that some of the strats slipped my mind, I was eager to gain my "street-cred" as the BEST KH player back. Lol. Now that I've beaten KH1 and KH2 again, I'm working on RE: Chains of Memories.

Now onto the next topic...I think without the Final Fantasy characters, it'd be better. First off, I'd say they embarrassed Squall with that pathetic representation Leon. I apologize to anyone who likes this "Leon," but as a Squall fan, I believe they f*cked him up more than anyone else on the game...; well, aside from Cid. The reason most of the gaming community criticizes KH is because of the Final Fantasy characters being in the game with Disney characters. I, for one, had no problem with it; but, I just hate that people look forward to how Square would whore out their characters. If people would not overshadow the depth of the KH storyline and thought-process, I'm sure they'd respect the series more. ...but I digress. :P

Enough of my silly rant. I think I've killed the thread with my boring post...

I never really liked this game, it was way to much of a childish looking game. You can say I judge this game by it's over and how it look's and it just never appealed to me so I basically despise this game xD.

But it does have some pretty good cut scene's that I have used in a few of my AMV's before so that's one this I consider this game good for. =D

This I agree with. I can definitely say KH2 was far more easier than KH1. The battles went by rather fluidly and didn't require all that much strategy. Just attack, attack, attack and Aerial Recovery when necessary. I didn't hate the battle system in KH2 mind you, but it could have been harder.

long to level up the drive system
QFT. I don't think I ever managed to master all the drive forms in a single playthrough yet >_>

    Whoo, another Squall fan :3

I didn't hate-hate Leon, because he's not the Squall from FFVIII. All the FF characters in KH aren't from their canon universes, so I'm more forgiving on the OOC of them. Leon. is. not. Squall....Damn it, he's not!

    He...he smiles, ffs Dx

I kind of got that he was a lil' bit of a strong male role model for Sora (er, sort of), so he kind had a bit of the "big brother" thing vibe with him, especially in KH2.

As for FF characters in the KH games, I won't lie. The reason why I even got into the series was because I heard there were FF characters in it. In my defense, 30 minutes into KH1, I fell in love with it, so I'm not that shallow xD

But I understand why people thought FF characters were so cool. Seeing the FF characters in upgraded graphic deisgned was just so amazing. Even if he wasn't Squall-Squall, Leon was the closest thing to a smooth, 3D design of Squall I'll ever see after FFVIII.

But like I said before, you don't need FF character to love KH. They're nothing more than cameos. Take them out and replace them with original character, and it's still the same story and such.

I know a lot of people already beat 358/2 Days by this point, but I just now finished the game. I gotta tell you, all this hate I've seen about Xion is just really unfounded. I think most people who say that haven't played the game yet, because for me, I'm just torn up over her role in the story and the characters connected to her T.T

I think ever since KH2, the over-all story has steadily become more and more mature with some dark tones to it while still maintaining the more brighter aspects. but seriously after beating 358/2 Days, I'm yet again impressed by this series.

Now I'm just gonna be waiting on Birth by Sleep >.<

You're awesome. :3 but you're right. I haven't mastered the drive forms yet. I want to so
I can fight Leon, Cloud, and Tifa.

I got into it because when I read about it back in 6th grade, it had some really decent concept designs. I also heard that they'd throw Disney characters in the mix with some of Square-Enix's thoughts. Back then, I was really into my RPG's. The series kind of needed the FF characters to sell it, however. I guarantee you that's how the KH series has some of its fans. If you look at it, the plot is pretty damn complex. In conclusion, through what I've gathered, it doesn't need FF characters, but it kind of did. :]

I've never played it. I wanted to really bad and my parents were like, uhhh no.

Aww, that's a shame. If you can play it, I'd recommend it. At the very least, if you have a PS2, you can understand a solid amount of the story just by playing KH1, KH Re:CoM and KH2.

No ps2. That's next on the agenda after fixing the most useless 360 ever.

Like a lot of other games that have a lot of hype and critical acclaim behind them, I would suggest that once the game is in your possession, you lower your expectations a bit. Because while I think it's a fantastic series of games, it's really an acquired taste. If you enjoy Disney characters and love Final Fantasy just as much, it's the game for you.

If not, you'll just be wasting your time.

I'm so-so on Final Fantasy (being that I've never played. Bret's a console hog), but I've always loved Disney entirely too much, so I think it'd probably be worthwhile. I haven't read up on the critical acclaim or the hype at all, so that shouldn't be much of a problem. I actually had forgotten about the game completely until I saw this thread.
