    Battle Royale

As many of you may or may not know, I am a huge fan of the graphic novel, Battle Royale. I picked it up several years ago and just couldn't put it down. Despite it being such a brutal story, I found myself almost entranced by the characters and the plot. The idea of it was just so haunting!

So, any other Battle Royaler's out there?

    I really want to read the novel. D;

The movie is real good, I've watched it probably more times than I can count. The second movie was a big disappointment, though. Ugh, terrible story.

The movie is really good, but very different from the book, which is something to be expected. So far (about 150 pages into the 600-some page book), the book is very good. A lot more "in-depth" than the movie, which is also to be expected. The two "transfer students" in the movie are established students in the book. Also, many characters start out with different weapons, but that can be overlooked. No pot lid, though.
    I cannot be any clearer.
Take from this what you will, and please feel free to counter anything I have said with some opinions of your own. Which would strictly probably almost be an accepted algorithm essential to the construct and maintenance of a proper discussion.
    Just throwing that out there.

Oh, I really want to read the book ! Unfortnately, I have yet to do
    that. Eventually, I will. =]

I've seen the movie, of course, and it was great. It really makes you think: What would you do? If you were put in that horrible situation.

    Horrible Situation you say?

That's hard to say. On the one hand, I'd probably have an easier time in the beginning since I don't value human life. On the other hand, I'm a namby pamby little girl so I'd probably end up dying like a coward.

I've read the book, several times, and it is a really, really quick read. I remember burning through that book in days, even reading it in high school classes and just ignoring my teachers. xD

I prefer the movie to the book, only because it's much easier to connect with the on-screen characters, and the acting was surprisingly good for an Asian film. [I'm used to the cheesy acting that one sees in Ichi the Killer, Versus, Suicide Club, Tokyo Gore Police, etc.] The soundtrack to it was really good as well, and any movie that can tie cheerful tunes like the Blue Danube Waltz or even Mozart is a movie worth enjoying!

It's funny whenever I see the actors in Battle Royale in other films. xD The actor who played Shogo Kawada was in Moon Child, the actor who played Kazuo Kiriyama was in Sukiyaki Western Django, and Shuya Nanahara was Light in the Death Note movies. I never call them by their actor's names, they're merely just the characters, haha.

I think if Battle Royale ever happened to me, that I'd be a Mitsuko or a Kiriyama, or perhaps even a Shogo. I wouldn't be afraid to kill, but if I was with a close friend whom I trusted, then I'd be Shogo and do my best to fight while protecting them.

I'd probably end up being Nobu, in that I die before the competition even starts.

The first time I watched the movie, all I could think was, "oh dang!" It almost seems like all at once, my innocent mind got torn from my body. I may be a little too young and I was slightly traumatized. However, the second time I watched it I was with my friends. This time around, all I could say was, "I want the machine gun!!!" I finally see the greatness of the movie. (the psycho guy was my fav)

I've tried watching the second movie, but I could not get pass the first half an hour. Like Casanova said, it was a huge disappointment.

Then, there is the manga. In my opinion, is the most brutal of all. It is much more graphic than the movie. The first few chapters had me cringing in disgust. However, I could not put it down. It is sort of like when you see something really disturbing, yet you can't look away from it.

I haven't read the book yet. I am planning to though. My friends have been telling me to read the book since 2004.

If I am not the one with the machine gun, I would have been those kids in the beginning who commited suicide.

They should have handed a kid with a bazooka. Did they? I don't remember.

I can't remember the movie much, but the book certainly didn't have any bazookas in it. xD

If I was in a Battle Royale, I think I'd simply find my best friends and lay low, hoping to ride out the storm for as long as possible. We'd be like the group of girls hiding out in the lighthouse. xD

Saying that, I'd still like a decent weapon, though. A handgun at the very least.

Yeah, this is the last time I am going to hear about Battle Royale and not check it out. I knew I should have picked up when I saw it in the video rental place the other day. That and the Suicide Club.
