[Rumor] Borderlands dev taking on Duke Nukem Forever

According to an article posted on Kotaku, sources claiming to have knowledge about the situation say that development of Duke Nukem Forever (a game that has been in development since 1997) will be taken on by Gearbox Software, the developers that brought you the acclaimed Borderlands title last year.

Interestingly enough, Gearbox were supposed to develop an apparently scrapped Duke spin-off called Duke Begins earlier this year. Also, Take-Two interactive (publishers of Borderlands) still maintain the publishing rights to Duke Nukem Forever.

Since the rumor has circulated, Gearbox Software, Take-Two Interactive and Randy Pitchford (the man previously charged with delivering Duke Nukem Forever to Take-Two) have all declined to comment on the situation, but you can't deny that this looks promising. For a few years now Duke fans have sort of been considered a cult due to the fact that the last Duke game was released 8 years ago.

But who better to take on the project? Since the release of Borderlands, apart from 4 DLC packs for Borderlands itself, Gearbox have also developed a Brothers In Arms iPhone game. They have a great history of developing FPS games with Halo, Counter-Strike, Half-Life, James Bond and previously mentioned Borderlands and Brothers In Arms titles all under their belt.

Duke fans rejoice? Just a rumor, but it sure looks promising.

Re: [Rumor] Borderlands dev taking on Duke Nukem Forever

I'm bumping this with more news. The rumor was true, Duke Nukem Forever has been given a release date of 2011. A playable demo of the game was made available recently to gobsmacked gamers at the Penny Arcade Expo. The game supports multiplayer and has at least one driving section. It's Duke as you know it filled with wacky humor, sexual innuendos, beautiful women and big guns for giving the aliens the ol' heave-ho.

Here's a link to an article for anyone that's interested that is positively rammed with links to footage, screenshots and other information about the playable demo and Duke Nukem Forever as a whole: http://kotaku.com/5630192/how-duke-n...t-back-to-life

Finally, justice has been done and Gearbox Software will forever be renowned.
