Yeah, so I'm back to using Photoshop. Here's what I've made in recent days, from oldest to newest:







All very different styles, I'd say. I'm surprised at how good the last one turned out.

Whoops, needed to calibrate the colour of my laptop monitor, didn't realise these were so dark.

I think the second one is the best. I like the effects in the third but IMO the real monkey stands out.

@ProphetOfTheForebearers: That's sort of the point. The monkey isn't actually real, it's CGI, but I get what you're saying. I really wanted to use the render not just for the comic effect but just because I knew how much of a challenge and a contrast it would be.
