Jake Hawke & Erin Gilmore
Why they work:
1. Erin and Jake are childhood best friends.
2. Jake is madly in love with Erin.
3. Erin is the only one who doesn't make fun of Jake for being an "nerd".
4. Their mothers' are close to each other and think they are cute together.
5. Jake is the kindest, sweetest boy Erin has ever met, and vice versa.
6. They have always been neighbors and always run into each other.
Why they WOULDN'T work:
1. Erin is friends with Jake out of pity.
2. They are only thirteen. Too young to believe Jake is in real love with her.
3. Erin secretly makes fun of him with her other best friend, Stephanie.
4. Hunter Grant - football playing jock - is the only guy Erin will ever "love".
5. Erin doesn't like nice guys. They're too "annoying and clingy", which is in fact true in Jake's case.
6. Jake is moving.
It was Jake's last dance at Bellview Middle School until he would be moving away to New York. He wanted Erin to go with him, his best friend and the very girl he'd be in love with since they'd met at the innocent age of five. She claimed she didn't want to go because dances were "lame and stupid". Knowing this, Jake was discouraged to go to the dance and stayed home. Later that night, he noticed through his bedroom window that Erin was leaving her home in a beautiful, stunning dress. She was going to the dance, just not with him. Hunter Grant pulled out of his mother's car, and came to greet her at the doorway. They kissed, and Jake felt completely crushed. That night, the poor nice boy cried while finishing with packing his bags.
The very next morning, Erin came across moving trucks outside Jake's home. Confused, she went to Jake's house to ask him what was going on.
"Jake, I don't understand. Are you leaving?"
"Yeah..."
"But...why?"
"My dad's company is getting located. I'm not sure if we're ever coming back here, actually."
"Oh..."
There was a strange tension in the air. Erin felt guilty; Jake had hidden this from her and hoped to have a good time with her at the dance, but she just didn't want to go with him.
"Well, I'll miss you Jake..."
"I'll miss you more. I love you so much, Erin."
"W-what?"
"It's okay. You don't have to give me any more pity, I know I'm not the kind of guy you want."
So Erin watched Jake leave. She felt guilty, yet relieved that she no longer had to take pity on someone like that. Years had passed since then, and Jake seemed to be a distant memory to her. Upon starting high school, Hunter Grant began to physically mature and more and more girls started paying attention to him. Thus, he stopped showing interest in Erin, and now she goes back to secretly crushing on him. Now at seventeen, Jake and Erin will be reunited in the most shocking way. As odd luck would have it, Jake's father's company is moving back to it's roots, and they will have to follow in pursuit. One day Erin comes home to see the empty neighboring house was now being intruded by movers carrying furniture. Her eyes lay upon something shocking, however, because Jake isn't pathetic Jake anymore.
Let's check the lists again.
Why they would work:
1. Jake has gone from short, scrawny wimp to tall, mysterious, and hot.
2. Jake Hawke is a bad boy now. A brooding heartbreaker that leaves girls always wanting more.
3. Erin seems attracted and drawn to Jake's new look and persona.
4. Erin wants to continue her friendship with Jake, who seems pretty okay with the idea too.
5. They are neighbors once again.
Why they WOULDN'T work:
1. Jake is no longer interested in Erin and seems to only want friendship.
2. Erin's heart still holds a special place for Hunter Grant.
3. Jake seems to like a specific cheerleader at Bellview High named Christina Marx.
4. The past makes Erin feel guilty, and only continues to anger Jake.

On that note, 'an "nerd"' is not proper grammar. I won't tell anyone though, if you don't.
