We are the roleplay veterans. We have pushed through all ups and downs there is to be had in the worlds of role play. We are the few, we are the proud. We are the creative, the conflicting, the resolving, the cooperating writers of our generation. We strive to push the boundaries of co-authoring, of character development, of battling dynamics. We take our experiences in stride, whether good or bad. We wear our scars and medals with honor and carry the memories of our endeavors with us in countless Notepad and Word documents to recount our struggles in imaginative brainstorming!!
So tell me... Just what sort of encounters have you had in your time as a roleplayer?
What is the best moment you've had as an RPer? A resounding moment in the story? Perhaps your creation of the perfect character overall? How about when you fell in love with a fellow RPer? Or did it just feel like it within the story?
What is the worst moment you've had? Did no one in the RP get along at all? Did the GM just have an insane power trip that you couldn't even stand reading their user name without going into a fit of indignant rage? Did you, unfortunately, lose your number one character in the world to an evil ploy within the storyline? Had you lost a friendship over some kind of scuffle because of an RP?
What's the weirdest thing that's happened to you in an RP? Did your character's lover turn out to be the opposite sex in a past life? Did you find out that one of your favorite RP partners is in the same Physics class as you are?
You don't have to divulge all aspects of your roleplaying experiences. But if you do have something interesting that you wouldn't mind getting out for everyone to see. Share with me! Share with us!!
As for me... Hmn.
I had a sort of weird moment in RPing during a supernatural RP I had joined a long time ago. In essence, each player was to have a counterpart in the RP. A Demon was to be paired with a Hunter. As I joined, I took a demon role. I posted and awaited someone to jump in as my hunter counterpart. Others seemed sensible enough to join with a friend to take on the specific roles together. As I waited, I kind of developed a deeper back story to my character than what I had initially come up with. I developed a second demonic character as a way to perhaps deepen the dynamic between my initial demon and the prospective hunter. As I continued to wait, I proceeded to create the dynamic with my character and this NPC. There was unfortunately no takers to my counterpart role and those who had already joined into the RP seemed to see it more prudent to overlook my character entirely.
So, in the end, I had been RPing with myself the entire time I was a part of this large RP. Incredibly odd turn of events I didn't see coming.
But, I suppose the up side to this tale is that I managed to fall in love with the two characters I had formed in this process and their story and even still have the posts today.
I've had many moments in my RP lifespan that I would consider golden. I had met one of my closest and dearest friends through RP and I would like to think that the story that we shared between us was one of my most successful - even if it never had the chance to see an end. (But, oh, the plans we had for such an end!) [Kevin, I love you and miss you so!]
Other successes I can think of are one story I shared with another good friend and, though we RPed for nearly a year, the story progression was rather slow. Our journey had hardly even begun. But this was merely due to the fact that we enjoyed our characters and exploring their interactions and developing their dynamics between them all. One that has also not reached an end - but, Life permitting, perhaps we may yet be able to continue it.
And, of course, I wouldn't possibly think of bringing up these successes without listing the current grand endeavor with everyone's favorite Kendra. I list this as one of my greater successes simply for the fact that she had slotted herself into my life as a great beacon of hope when I had nigh given up any last bit I had in regards to finding someone who had the slightest inkling about what I was talking about should I mention "Peter and the Wolf." And, naturally, the girl has yet to cease to impress. So that goes under the list with a big fat, "HELL YEAH!"
Worst RP moments? My policy is generally a trial-by-error sort of basis. I was just as bad as the next n00b when it came to beginnings; script RPing, those gawd awful action indicators that haunt me so. (Obviously, I pick the worst set to run with - " ::ACTION:: ")
Though, I would have to say one of my sadder moments are when I decided to cut the chord and stop RPing for a while. My original haven had long devolved into a hot mess of puberty and the resulting hormone rush. Most of my roleplay comrades had long abandoned it and left me with little alternative to do the same. Barring two - and eventually one - RP partner, I no longer had the solidarity I built in RP with strong partners. And after roughly 2-3 years RPing with my "last resort" the inspiration started to run dry as did the draw to the stories we had developed. My writing drive had plummeted and the creative gears began to halt. It was a dark day indeed when I finally swore off RPing. It's only been recently that I've picked it up again, a big thanks to Kendra.
A second outstanding "failure" would be the first attempt at GMing an RP. I had originally roped my brother, his friend, and a friend of my own into a slightly intimate story for the sake of practice with comfortable folk. However, once set into motion, this seemed to be the perfect time for my friend to bail on me nigh completely. After his apparent disappearance, my brother and his friend soon followed suit and the chances at getting a GM groove were dashed. //// I have begun an attempt at "try, try again" here at RSF, but - no offense to doaj and Dew, you are both so fabulous for keeping with me and being SOO very patient - I am unsure about the success even a second time.
(Nevertheless, boys, I promised a start for the two of you and a start you shall have. Though, there may be a slight bit of discussion in the OOC before hand. /End Digression)
Now I'm an open book for everyone to read. xDD
