    The Last Airbender

I've recently watched the entire cartoon series of Avatar, and I've been keeping tabs on the live action adaptation of it. Finally we have a new trailer of some substance!

    BORKED

Is anyone else excited about the movie? Any worries about it? The trailer looks very dramatic, so I hope that they will still retain more humor in the movie, but all in all...it looks pretty damn good!

In a way I'm really glad that movies are being made, because while I loved the cartoon series, I never got to watch very many episodes. I know the basic outline of maybe the first two seasons, but after that everything gets turned upside down for me.

I am a little alarmed at how they've casted for this movie. Example of how I think things should be:

    Air-benders: Asian/Chinese
    Water-benders: Inuit/Eskimo
    Earth-benders: Caucasian
    Fire-benders: DEFINITELY ASIAN/JAPANESE

Still, hopes are good. Shyamalan is a competent director in my eyes.

I like to feed on broken hearts

I'm definitely very excited about this. I loved the cartoon series. My friends and I were discussing casting recently and most of them aren't too pleased with Aang. I just really hope that they don't screw it up!

Knowing Shyamalan, he'll make it to where Aang is actually his own father and his tattoo actually has instructions on how to stop the aliens.
    Or some shit.

oh my freakin gawd im excited about it. i am a huge-- and i mean HUGE-- fan of avatar the last airbender. have all the box sets and everything.

i was really skeptical about The Last Airbender at first. especially when i saw that most of the main actors were caucasian, and not their respective races in the show. and i hated their choice for aang. but after seeing that he lost some weight and got into his character, i think i'll like him. but im still pissed how they blantantly disregarded so much of the different asian cultural references that were added to the show. like, asians being cast as only background and second-hand characters. -_- that i dont think i will ever get over. but as for the overall direction that Night is taking, it looks pretty good. im still excited, but i will definitely be knit picky.

Very few of the characters are established Asians, though.
At least from what I saw. And it shouldn't be assumed that they are, since the show wasn't made or set in Japan; even though it was HEAVILY influenced by anime.

It looks awesome. So much better than Dragon Ball Z. I actually might spend 10 dollars to watch it. Even thought its not exactly as the anime as far as culture and race, its looks like it tells the story ACCURATELY, which is the point.

Lol, I remember thinking that the movie Avatar was going to be about the Last Airbender. Didn't everyone, though? Whenever someone asked me, "Are you going to watch Avatar?", I would always reply, "THE LAST AIRBENDER?! HELL YES!"
D: And then they broke my heart.
I do want to watch the movie, really bad. Dragonball Z's trailers pissed me off, because it looked... homosexual. I'm hoping Zuko will be as hot in this movie as he was in the cartoon movie, (:

    I don't want it. :|

Sure, I could say that the casting is something of a turn off for me, but I don't really have faith that M. Knight Shyamalan can effectively pull off this story, especially when I discovered that he had a big hand in the screenplay.

I am also afraid that he, as well as the producers, will feel like they can make certain liberties with the story since it is based on a Nickolodeon cartoon. The dark and grittiness of the trailer doesn't convince me in the least. I've been fooled way too many times to fall for that BS again. LOL.

In a nutshell, I'm going to wait for the movie to be released, gauge the people's reaction, and then download it when it's available on DVD.

ROFL dude. I spell that way EVERY time, too. I think it's because I can't wrap my head around someone actually having the word "Night" in their name without the "K."

I'm actually not too worried about him botching the story, because the Producer and Executive Producer are the original creators of the cartoon itself, so I think there may be more Nickelodeon involvement than we initially thought there'd be.

Also, I don't believe the movie is going to be as gritty as the trailer showed it to be, I think they're just trying to appeal to a more teenage audience, as opposed to the kids that they already know they have. The trailer showcases the drama and the fight scenes, which is likely aimed to pull in more teenagers, like I said. I don't know the running time, so it's possible that it may be a longer movie than we may think, and therefore they'll be able to in a lot more of the light-heartedness and humor that we've come to love from Avatar.

@confidence: When I first heard about 'Avatar,' that's exactly what I thought, too! It's too bad they couldn't have just named it 'Pandora' instead of hogging the Avatar name. xD But, oh well!

I really hope this movie is good. The show is awesome, and even excellent for being an anime that both children and adults can watch. On the other hand, it could bomb, so I'm reserving judgment.

No matter that Cameron had been working on the film for years before Airbender came out.

Actually Airbender started February 2005, and Cameron announced that he was starting the Avatar project in June of 2005.

Based on that information, Cameron would have had to have been working on the film for at least 6 months already to have been the original "Avatar"

Considering the first episode of Airbender was on Feb 5th 2005, and there was 2 episodes created and fully ready to play on that day, they must have had AT LEAST 3 months production time.. therefore, Cameron would have had to have been working on Avatar for at least 8 months before he announced it..

And now I'm reading that Cameron had the idea 11 years ago.. but shit, the makers of Airbender could have had the idea for a long time. Cameron didn't even NAME Avatar until he started production on it, which he didn't even ANNOUNCE production of it until after Last Airbender started.

    Who knows..

The only problem with that theory is that the two stories have little to nothing in common. Also, while Airbender has a large, dedicated fanbase, it's not Pokemon huge. So it's not like Cameron was planning on calling his film "Avatar" to trick people into going to see it (because, frankly, if you went to see Avatar in theaters and didn't know it wasn't related to the show, you deserve to be ripped off).

Also, Kendra mentioned naming it "Pandora" so that Airbender could use the name "Avatar". That might be okay, except that another film called "Pandorum" was released much closer to Avatar than Airbender is. There would have been substantially more confusion in that instance.

All right, so, the new trailer for this has made me even more excited for this thing. xD I'm still a bit worried that the movie may not have as much humor in it, and relies mostly on the 'coolness' and 'drama' factor, but, damn it, I want it to be July!

    BORKED

I'm not seeing it in 3D though. xD That's just lame.

I have always doubted this movie will even have a tiny hint of humor but...It looks like a good watch.

So I'm bumping up this thread to let you all know...

It was terrible. The movie was absolutely AWFUL.

I could rant on this for a few hours...but it's not worth it. =/
