Okay, so I'm working on a project of mine, it's an RPG, based off of my book, and I was wondering if... ANYONE at all would be interested in helping me with it, maps I can suss out given time, but I do need people to help with:

    Soundtrack
    Character Sprites
    Characters
    Dungeons[maps]
    Vehicles[maps]
    Enemy Sprites
    Enemies
    Bosses
    Battle System
    Items
    Extra Towns[maps]

    [EXTRA]Scripts[EXTRA]

And now, just so show tasters of my current work, I will leave two images:

Anyone who is interested can feel free to post, ask questions, and PM me, hell, if needs be, you can email me at:

    lancer(dot)d(dot)o(dot)davenport(dot)13011990(at)h otmail(dot)com

I look forward to responses, and, as of now, I don't know if this will be published, so don't ask, same with my book, and I realise this is not a small or easy project, but I'll appreciate any help.

And on a final note, people who help out will have their names and job put in the credits (E.G. John Smith/Username#123, Item Designer)

Hey, I can actually help you out music wise, though it'll really depend on what sound you're going for (i.e. classic chiptune 8-bit stuff or something else)

8-Bit is probably most suited because of the software I'm using, it likes files used for the BGM to be in Midi format in case they repeat, however me knowing me I want something more smooth like one of the more modern games, it's all about what you can manage, and what works for the game (thankfully the software installed some sample music which helps me think)

Anyway new screenshot, I have a base idea on how windows may look, anyone can chuck in ideas, this is an open project

And this may help if you need music format pointers, gotten from one of the program's sites:

    "Formats available to import
    MID*1, OGG*2, WMA, MP3, WAV*3
*1:Can not be used with BGS and SE. If control change No.111 is in MIDI data of BGM, it will be recognized as a repeat position of the music, after the whole piece is played.

*2:If LOOPSTART, LOOPLENGTH values are compressed as comments, the sampling position will be recognized within the repeating range.

*3:It also supports import of uncompressed wave and Microsoft ADPCM.

This is the Background music. Usually in MID files.

This is the Background sound. Usually in OGG files.

This is the Music Effect. Usually in MID files.

This is the Sound Effect. Usually in OGG files."

Coolness. Looks like you're using RPGMaker? Should be fun. n_n Inbetween this new website I'm building for a client and such, I'll have my hands full, but I'll send you some tunes as I make 'em.

If you ever need help with the RMVX editor, feel free to ask me

I've done my fair share of experimenting with this brand of programs, and I've been messing around with them for a while.

I actually had a game somewhat fleshed in the beginning, but it never went anywhere lol.

Yeah the software I'm using is RPG Maker VX (RMVX as Uncle said XD) And I could use a hand editing the scripts, but I am not really sure how to do that (took me an age to change the window style and font) I was aiming for the view to be "side-on" in battle and hoped that something could be done to change the screen size, but looking at the scripts makes me dizzy...

And sorry but no pic/screenshot today, I need to start drawing roughs for the character ideas I have.

I once tried making a game on RPG Maker, but it failed miserably. :[
I hope you have more success than I do.

Thanks BlackJack, and if you want to help out feel free, and after some time, I have a base map for a city now, but no buildings because I can't figure where to put what... v.v

Anyway It would be nice if you told me what you think, and anyone can take and doodle on this picture to help with the ideas XD

Also, character wise I've failed again, my sketches always seem a bit... Gawky... Goofy... Or just plain wrong... So I'll keep working on those, and maybe take things a little slower with them.

If you want me to, I can provide drawn art... but I don't know how well that would implement in this program though.

Anyway, here's a link to some of my stuff:

I also have some experience with mapmaking (the map for Dragon-Bane is my latest project but I've done more in the past) and I have a multitude of stories up my sleeve.

Just tell me what you need and if I find time I can whip something up.

You can download Tankentai Side Battle System on http://www.rpgmakervx.com/
    Very good community...

But Tankentai SBS takes ALOT of editing, (I mean almost to the point of where you're spending so much time editing the script that you might as well learn to code and make your own, lol) and screen size scripts are common grounds to find.. you can make screen maximizer scripts, but yeah. Definitely don't edit the core scripts that come with a new file unless you want to spend time finding the code you edited so you can fix it... which that would be kinda hard if you have no idea how to code.

Ruby is complex, I wouldn't consider learning how to code it, only because I find RMVX to be.... somewhat uncomplete of a tool. They made it easy, but they didn't make it complex enough.. it doesn't suit my needs, so I stopped using it.

However, you can find some pretty awesome scripts.. I made an RMVX game.. here I'll show you screenshots.

I used a Final Fantasy Tactics esque battle system.. but most of the things you see in the screenshots cannot be achieved with default RMVX.

I guess I'll sign up for the RMVX community a little later on then, and see what they have to help, And at the moment I'm hurting for some good enemies, I can live with the characters for now but no enemies, no game

They have tons of user-submitted scripts in the forums, and alot of them are very useful... but there's always those useless ones you should avoid that will fuck your code up.

Definitely make sure that the scripts you download are compatible with your other scripts, and make sure you write down the maker's names of the scripts you use, because sometimes they don't put it in the script itself. Alot of scripters want you to credit them if you pull out a full game with their codes in it.... so that's why I say that.

  13. #13
I will, no worries, I've saved bookmarks of scripts that have gotten me interested, but before I use them in this project, I might make a dummy project just for script testing, to weed out the bad ones

If anyone else has better ideas, or knows a good script, I'm more than willing to listen to a "Don't use that, use this!"

And I'll admit that this makes me a little dizzy, but gotta bear with

Honestly it really depends on what you want.. KGC and Yanfly are both really good scripts that improve the core game... but there's tons of editing involved (not forced, like the Side View Battle system), so it's not really for novice users.

For the rest? Again, depends on what you want to do... browsing the forums for cool scripts is good, make sure you read the comments because people are always giving critique and usually you'll find out if the script is good or bad by just what people are saying.

If you're going to use RMVX and you aren't planning on learning scripting, definitely plan on spending almost as much time as you would learning scripting just looking for scripts..

There's loads of 'em, so yeah.

Aww hell... I just tried to get onto the RMVX community and got an error message

This must mean one of two things, 1) Server crash, 2) Server maintanance.

I was going to look at some of the scripts I bookmarked, see if they would or wouldn't work, already have a couple that are... Okay I think, one is for evolving weapons, the other extra slots for equipment and a points system for equipment to make it interesting.

The other scripts I had planned on getting were for ammunition, ranged weapons needing ammo in order for them to be used, an ATB system for the turn-based combat (figured keeping it turn-based would be easier than real-time combat) A system for learning skills from items or equipping items to gain access to magic (for magic casters who don't naturally have that skill) And finally a PROPER result window when a battle is finished, a retry screen if you fail a fight, and a party selector so you can easily change your party members...

Really I was an idiot for not downloading them when I had a chance, kinda sucks really, but oh well...

Anyway I need to get back to work and finish the map for Archon off, it's lagging behind and needs finishing, still empty because for some reason I am sucking with it XD

Which is a pain for you because VX uses its own kind of scripting, although in all reason the script it uses is probably based off another, and don't put yourself down, if you think it through I'm sure you can come up with something great for the game

What I'll do next is put up some of the story I'm writing, I'm writing it as a book and adapting it for gameplay so it might/might not make much sense right now, all I need to do is read through and do a little editing before I'll post it up, won't take too long, will be in the next post XD

Ruby is more based off of C+ than anything else.. although it definitely is it's own language lol.

Well, I wouldn't know, I tried to learn scripting but it just frazzled my brain, anyway I said I would put some of the story I'm writing up, so here it is:

    Prologue: Despair
Looking up to the sky, the black night spreading across the vastness of his home, the heavens open up, rain flows forth, washing the tears, and the blood, from his face and clothes, he smiles, and walks on, a young girl following closely, the town behind him burning down slowly, a black rose drifting down into the flames.

    Chapter One: Happiness
“A warm day, a soft breeze, yes, it’s good to be young.” Said a young man, dark hair flowing down his shoulders, it shining like satin under the rays of the sun, suddenly the warm feeling goes as a shadow falls over his face, “What are you thinking Master?” Said a young girl, a few years younger the man, her voice brimming with happiness and energy, with a sigh the man says “I was thinking of how nice it is to lay out under the sun like this...” he opens his eye a crack and looks at the girl with grin, “You know that if you don’t wear your hat and skirt someone will find out you’re a servant.” The girl had dark-blond hair, and a soft, down-like, fur on her skin, her eyes a yellowish-green, and a blond, wolf-like tail protruding from her back. She sat next to him for a few seconds, before sticking her tongue out, “The hat is uncomfortable Master...” she replied, to which the young man answered, “Mira, I thought I asked you to NOT call me Master when we’re alone together...” Mira looked into her lap and blushed, becoming nervous, “I’m sorry... Ciel...” she answers sheepishly, her lips carrying the tiniest hint of a smile and her voice allows a soft and quiet growl. Ciel stood and dusted himself off, smoothing out his gold-trimmed red vest, the dust and the dirt from the field falling off neatly, almost to the point he never laid down at all, his brown leather boots glistened in the sunlight, along with his sabre, the white sleeves of the shirt under his vest almost aglow, “Well, mother is expecting me back, and... You have to...” Ciel looks at the ground, to which Mira places her hand on his shoulder and whispers, “I know I’m only a servant girl, I’ll tend to my duties during your meal... Ciel... Master...” she then walks down the hill, towards the castle of which the pair reside, heading for the kitchen, Ciel, not far behind, heads for the dining hall.
In the grand dining hall, surrounded by family and officials, Ciel’s boredom began to show, and it showed badly, his ring-finger was running circles around the outside of his cup, and his sighs echoed across the table and throughout the room, it was then he straightened himself, feeling the dagger-like stare of his mother and father, he placed his hands, and waited for the meal to be served. About fifteen minutes later, the head chef, two waiters, and Mira, who is now wearing her servant clothes, walked in, bringing in a banquet of food, the waiters filled plates with delicious food while Mira filled cups with a rich red wine, the chef conversed with Ciel’s father, and then clapped his hands, Mira, although hesitant at first, went over and to Ciel’s father, who praised her on her manners and choice of wine, and she was then dismissed, she bowed again, turned, and left, Ciel had his eyes fixed on her the entire time, he read the lips of his father despite sitting so far away, but he held his feeling back, and ate, almost disgusted by his father’s decision, but, unfortunately there was nothing he could do at this point, maybe his parents would listen after the guests leave.
Several hours later, Ciel walked, foot heavy and fast, up the aisle to his parents thrones, a look of thunder on his face, and a crackle of magical energy around him, sparking between his fingers and every strand of hair, he sweeps back his Azure Knights robe, kneeling before his parents as a wind picks up and swirls around him, his anger, couldn’t be more visible, “Father! I demand to know why you relieved Mira of her duties! She has done nothing wrong in her entire stay here!” his father, looked down at Ciel from his throne, and bellowed “Watch your tone young man! Do you not realise I am not just your father but the Archon of this realm?” Ciel replied with a leer that could petrify most normal men, but neither he nor his father are normal men, both has extremely high physical and magical talents, slowly, his father stood “I got rid of that inhuman vermin out of convenience, nothing more, nothing less, now my son, why are you so upset about this?” With that, Ciel snapped, the wind became a storm as lightning struck the floor from every inch of his body, scorching the floor tiles and columns, “What did you call her? Vermin? She’s anything but vermin, the only vermin I see here is you father... If this is what it takes to be a Bierune, I want no part of it!” Ciel spits into his father’s face, Lord Bierune wipes the spit from his cheek calmly, then slaps his son, the back of his Ring of Lordship cutting deeply into Ciel’s cheek, who then slowly massages his jaw as blood drips onto the tiled floor, he bows to his father and leaves, the lightning dying down as he walks past his father’s guards, who walk with a clattering of plate-mail and lances hitting the ground, he leaves the castle as the heavens open and rain pours from the skies.

I kept the title out deliberately, anyhow there it is, as far as it goes right now, still working on it and the games look, I hope this can help people out

    Lookin good so far..

Just so you know, the music can support all sorts of very high quality music. However, you shouldn't put it in the game, rather support a download with the high quality music included.

I had Star Ocean 2 music in my game, and it sounded AMAZING.. so you can do alot more with RPG Maker than ya think :P
