    Wink More Anime on Blu-Ray?

If you're one of those people who watches anime subbed, or fansubs, you know that most anime downloads are available in HD.

Of course, most localized Anime releases in the US are mostly on DVD, and the quality difference is pretty noticeable.

What do you think? Should more anime be released on Blu-Ray? Would you buy it?

Well, I don't have Blu-Ray, so when I buy anime, it's DVDs. But when I DL anime, I always get MKV super quality, since there is no such thing as "HD Monitors." That's why I have Nabari No Ou Part 1 on DVD...

And Nabari No Ou Part 1 on my computer. xD

My answer is also no, but possibly a 'yes.' I really didn't notice a big jump in the quality of Blu-Ray Samurai 7 versus the DVD version, but if I could have an entire anime series on one disc...well, that's convenient, and I'd pay for it. So, if it's a good price and on less discs, sure, otherwise...a cartoon's a cartoon to me. I won't watch an anime on youtube quality, but DVD quality just does dandy for me.

You DO realize the anime Industry is sevearly declining and that companies, including GONZO have gone bankcorrupt. The Anime Industry in general has started producing less series, 1/8th of the production it used to have last year.

Simply downloading stuff "for free" is going to someday kill the entertainment medium that you might partially enjoy. =/

MKVs are usually in HD these days. Most monitors go BEYOND HD these days even.

HD is just a resolution, and in the case of 720p its 1280x720p. Its quite bigger for 1080p, which is true HD, or the largest one you can get, but I can't remember it off the top of my head.

If you have a decent monitor, probably one that has a HDMI port, it IS pretty much a HD monitor. Just thought I'd let you know =D

A valid reason but its worth noting that Samurai 7 is an extremely old series. There is no remastered edition for it in Japan, so whatever release they made here was "remastering" it themselves. Even then, most shows that are remastered can't really compete with shows that were MADE to be watched in HD (i.e Most shows that come out these days).

The real difference, is evident in more recent series, and well, I wouldn't even buy series that never had a HD version to begin with (Sadly even epic shows like Death Note came BEFORE the whole HD boom).

I'm not sure what "bankcorrupt" means, but assuming you meant "bankrupt", I don't care. Japan won't let anime companies go down, and fans won't stop subbing, so while dubs may go the way of the dodo, anime itself will not. I'm fine with that.

And besides, I would cut off my hand and eat it before I pay 10-15 bucks for 4 episodes. Which is what anime DVDs typically run. And I don't have a bluray player and don't plan on getting one, so having all of a series on one bluray disk is irrelevant to me.

True, but what it will do is make Japanese Animation Studios EVEN MORE desperate and they're already plenty desperate.

What we'll get is more shows like Ikkitousen, K-0n! and other moe or fanservice shows.

Like unique stuff like Death note? baccano!? Higurashi? Say good bye to more quality stuff, and end up seeing more of the same stuff that is a sure fire to sell.

I'll quote an excerpt from an article I wrote:

Its obvious that anime producers and the big companies are preying on this “singles” problem in Japan. The men are clearly wanting to be taken advantage of, and at least see some hope in the form of 2D Girls. Its become so widespread and some popular that its’ become the entire industry’s trend to cash in on this, because the number of 2D Girl loving Otaku make up the bulk of the audience anyway.

It’s also because of this, that shows like Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, can’t hold a candle to shows like Bakemonogatari (even though they’re both awesome shows). The latter just has the extra added “awesome girls” appeal to it, that FMA doesn’t and shouldn’t have. Since anime barely treads out the territory its established, the chance of it expanding to wider audiences is near impossible. This also leads to a negative stereotype against anime.

Now for people who don't have access to the means to support the industry they love, its not really any question of whether or not they should pay for anime or not.

But people who simply get it only for free and don't support the good stuff they like, well, they're the reason that quality and awesome stuff ends up failing and dieing even though it shouldn't.

Simply saying: "its not my problem, Japanese won't let the companies die" isn't exactly the course of action I'd take, personally. If you love something and enjoy it, the least you can do is appreciate and pay the people who work their ass off to give it to you.

See, there's the catch. I don't have the kind of money necessary to buy all the anime. If they sold for reasonable prices, that would be something else, but the only time I've ever seen affordable anime was I was the complete series of Afro Samurai for 10 bucks. If I wasn't completely broke at the time, I would have bought it.

But more often than not, anime is ridiculously over-priced.
