    Orc Snippet.

Orcs – A mysterious race of large huminoids that populate the unexplored regions of Derandel. Favoring a militaristic nation they have yet to settle on a single place to call home. The nomads may not make for pleasant company but they make for world class mercenaries.

I could try and see about a passworded thread but I have no clue how to go about that... at all. I'm not really a forum buff when it comes to doing that kind of stuff

Just tell me what kind of size you have in mind. I can resize it and upload that smaller version, and then you could post a link to the bigger version. You could also wrap the picture in spoiler tags so people can choose whether to view it.

    Kamp
A small city state on the border of two large and powerful nations as well as the northern-most nation of Derandel, Kamp has always had to be able to defend itself against multiple enemies. Kamp is a true warrior society, and each child is methodically trained from a very early age. Kamp may have lost a few battles, but so far, they have never lost a war.

    Dohir
Dohir has always been a nation of naval interest. Its location on a river and the wide Bavaltic Sea to the south are its lifeblood - the trade generated by their location has made the city grow. Big defence works against pirates have been erected in the sea as well as on land. Ambitions of expansion into Kamp have always been fruitless, despite Dohir's sizeable army of professional legionaires.

    Mackhenna
Although Mackhenna is indicated as a country on most maps, it is actually a collection of tribes and comunities, fighting amongst themselves more than they do against other countries. The men here are short and sturdy, and their warriors are fierce. People tell of people painted in bright colours and covered with markings, both probably indicating their tribe and family ties. The tribes based on the coast often sail on thin, long boats to plunder other lands.

    Bisdale
Its central location makes Bisdale an important trading city for both naval and land routes. Its capital city is possibly the largest city in all Derandel, but they're also well-known for their excellent cavalry, and their most fierce warrior's ethos and charge strike fear into any infantryman. Bisdale's cavalry has earned them vast tracts of land, but they were forced to halt when both Dohir and Kamp turned out to be harder nuts to crack.

    Lespool
Located near a lagoon and river delta, Lespool is a place any noble must have seen some time in his life. Trade with the elves and the naval nations of Derandel are the main sources of income. The land is not easy to farm, and stone buildings need to be repaired or even rebuilt every few years as they slowly sink in the soft soil. Most buildings are therefore made of wood, which doesn't sink as quickly but then, it does rot. Having no military force to speak of, Lespool has to rely on its diplomacy, and the excellent diplomats and negotiators of this country have often mediated a truce between warring factions.

    ---

These are the 'oneliner' backgrounds I made for all the human countries except for Dibran, which is yours, Human.

I'll happily expand on this at some later time but right now I'm going to get some sleep!

EDIT: Oh, and obviously this is still subject to change and open to discussion!

EDIT2: Bisdale was crooked, I 'repaired' that bit.

I'll do the dwarves tonight and post them, or send them to one of you guys if trying to post gets too annoying. If I can stay awake I'll also try to do more on the magic list.

No rush. I AM looking forward to seeing what you've come up with though!

Let's see if I can get this to work...

Okay, so this is the second time I've typed up something for the Dwarves. Don't ask. -_- Forgive me if it seems rushed, and I'm sure I left a lot out. It's still a basic foundation for our stout little friends, and I think people will be more inclined to play one if they don't have to make up everything themselves.

Race: Dwarf. (Plural: Dwarves. Collective;[as a race] Dwarvenwold.)
    Physical appearance-
Dwarves are short but massive. Though their average height is about a foot below that of humans, they are so muscular that their presence seems like that of a giant. Their skin ranges from light brown to ebony black depending on the region. Because short hair is a symbol of small children to dwarves, they will generally have long hair and well-grown facial hair. An excellent beard is a matter of pride to a dwarf. Because most dwarves are workers, and they live most of their lives in the ground bathing is not a regular event. So even dwarves that have taken to living outside their native holts and do bath regularly are stuck with the stereotype of being a dirty race.

    Dwarf Society-
It has only been in the past few centuries that Dwarves have had relations with the other races. Now they interact with most every race and are masters of trade; however they are still a secretive and mysterious race. Most Dwarves still live inside Dwarvenholts; massive fortress like cities carved inside mountains. In all of history, there is only one record of a Dwarvenholt falling to an enemy. This stolen home is still infested with an untold amount of monsters, and all attempts to reclaim in have failed. Dwarvenwold consider this to be their greatest shame.

Dwarves revere the earth as a living thing, and give praise to it as they carve their homes out of the “living rock.” They look down on other races’ cruder methods of mining. Dwarves are able to mine quickly and efficiently, and even deeper into the earth than other races. They also know well-kept secrets of mysterious ores that other races don’t have access to. Because of this dwarves are known to have some of the world’s master smiths and metal workers. Dwarven armour is considered the best in the world; it does not come cheap however.
Because dwarves control so many crucial trade routes through mountain passes, they have become a rich race. They not only charge tolls in many place, but export a large amount of weapons, armour, tools, and raw ore. For the most part their only import is food. Dwarves are able to grow food underground, however their native diet is basically restricted to one bland-tasting plant. Dwarf population has grown so much since beginning trade relations with other races that a Dwarvenholt probably could not survive on what it grows itself. Many dwarves are known to be gourmets, especially outside of their holts.

Dwarves outside of their native holts has become a common sight. They live among other races as laborers, smiths, merchants, and mercenaries. Even the best haggler will think twice before trying to work down a Dwarven merchant, they are known to be tough negotiators. As warriors, Dwarves are to be feared. They may be short in stature, but they are stout and extremely powerful. The average Dwarf can easily snap a humans arm in two. Their short heavy bodies seem perfectly evolved for sweeping blows from axes and their giant hammers.

Dwarves bodies are developed for physical power. Their lifespan is shorter than humans’, it is rare for a Dwarf to live a day above 60. However, a 59 year old Dwarf would probably still be physically able. They burn their dead above ground on funeral pyres.

    Dwarven Women-
You’ve no doubt heard many jokes in your local tavern about the lack of Dwarf babes, or how they keep them hidden because of their giant beards. The truth is there are female Dwarves, and they are kept hidden. (Not because they have beards though.) Females are very rare in the Dwarven race. There is usually one female for about 100 males. Because of this a female Dwarf will bear the children of many different men in their lifetime. No one outside of Dwarvenwold has ever laid eyes upon a Dwarf maiden. They do not go outside the Dwarvenholts and are kept completely covered except for their eyes when not with a man. Of all their secrets Dwarves are most fiercely protective of their women. Even a rude comment about their maidens is enough to sign your death warrant.

I wouldn't change anything, this looks brilliant!

If pressed, maybe even lower the Dwarven age a bit, since humans probably won't become 80 much in this world either... maybe make humans' max age about 70, 75 (with exceptions ofc) and Dwarves' max age about... 60-65 perhaps?

Ryvius, dwarves seem like an awesome race to rp. I can totally imagine them being reclusive and secretive at a campsite. And just plain fearless in battle!!! Great job!

Thanks. I'm hoping that someone does decide to play a dwarf, if only to help expand them as a race. Also, I put in the bit about the fallen holt in case one day you want to use it for a quest or mini-RP or something. Which is also why I left it so vague.

Yeah, that fallen holt is rife with possibilities! I can see us going there one day.
