What Anime Had the Most Depressing Death?

Okay, so as I was taking a trip down memory lane, I forgot all about Naruto. I've given up on the series, but I stumbled by my cousin's room and he was watching it. It was the episode about Jiraiya's final tale in the series. Granted the series pissed me off with countless fillers, baseless ways of how certain ninja killed ninja that were obviously stronger than they were, and of course the how things have progressed with the series. Now, I'm never reluctant to express feelings because I have a hard time to, but I remembered how he died without watching the episode. I won't spoil it for those who follow the series, but have not watched the episode; but he died in a cool way.

I don't want to talk a hole in your ears, but I hadn't seen this topic yet. If it has been made, I apologize about that and do what you have to do to remove it.

Now that THAT is out of the way, what were some really depressing deaths you've witnessed in Anime? Please share.

The end of Cowboy Bebop. That was just sad

Closely followed by Code Geass, and Gankutsuou. Nothing to cry over but was depressing.

Kamina from Gurren Lagann. He was almost made out to be the protagonist (which I think was the writers' intention). And then, "LOL HE'S DEAD!"

It was most depressing just because such an awesome character had such a cheap death.

@ Ty - I do think that was a really depressing ending. I couldn't ever forget Cowboy Beebop, man. It was a great anime.

@Black - HOLY CRAP!! I forgot all about him! I was like...what the hell? They made the wimp the main protagonist. He didn't go out in a stupid way though. It was epic.

I thought he was killed in a stupid way. He managed to hand on enough to make it epic, but still.
And the wimp came around, though. It was super lame at first, but I warmed up to him.

Because Kendra is going to say it...

Gankutsuo...I warn you now, if you plan on watching this anime DO NOT READ THIS!

Albert de Morcerf, has a best friend who secretly has a crush on him even though Albert NEVER realizes it. Albert challenges the vengeful Count of Monte Cristo to a duel for the honor of his father and mother. On the night before he's supposed to fight, Franz (the best friend) drugs him and takes his place. Needless to say, the viewer doesn't realize he's in the armor until he finally dies and Albert shows up and screams 'FRRRRAAAAANNNNZZZ'. Epic.

Oh, Mr. Werewolf, you're so cute! Why is your mouth so big? Why, in order to put my explosives in it!

Good thing I really didn't read what you said. I've always wanted to check out Gankutsuo. In fact, I think I'll watch that right now.

I suppose I could agree with you. After a few episodes, I was able to like the "supposed" main protagonist. I just admire the way he died. It was pretty epic, but jacked up at the same time.

This one definitely does take the cake. =/ I remember being like: "NNOOO!!!" When it happened. From then on out, I just look at everyone who watched Gankutsuou and go: "...Episode 18. ...Episode 18! D=!"

And, I'd also say Grave of the Fireflies.
As in, the entire movie. Since, the entire movie is sad, and the death of the little girl is definitely...the saddest. D=

Ugh. I'm getting sniffles just thinking about it!

Also, any death in Neon Genesis Evangelion. Except for Kaworu. That freaky-ass chicken shit. >:|
    Anyway, especially Misato and Asuka.

Aw...-huggle- It's okay. I just watched up to episode 5 of "Gank"..I think it's a pretty damn good anime. When I get off of work, I'm buying the whole series.

I've seen the whole series, and you don't know how much I HATE this series...It's unbelievably boring. I was happy whenAsuka died because she was annoying. Everyone should have died. But hey...that's just my opinion. :]

They have a special circle in hell for your kind. >:[

Although I'm not sure if they'll put you there or in the spot for people who don't use spoiler tags correctly.

I agree Misato's death was one of the saddest deaths in any Anime ever.

However Asuka's death was greatly appreciated sicne she was an annoying mofo who just needlessly bullied Shinji for pretty much the whole series.
    HE WILL BE MISSED...

    Every death in Gurren Lagann.

Also, EVERYONE in the penultimate arc of Higurashi Kai, and for completely different reasons, Rip van Winkle in the fourth Hellsing OVA. Why? Not only was she a great character, but her death was ridiculous, and marks the worst point i've seen in Hellsing. For one, because of it, Alucard killing the Villain Of The Week at the end of each OVA is becoming predictable. They could have easily had Schrodinger step in and shake up the formula, but no. And then there's her sudden personality 180 when she realises Alucard is nearby. And the daftest thing is how it actually happened. Alucard turned into a jet (like a boss) and bombed the Nazis (like a boss), dove in, and penetrated Rip's chest with a large phallic object whilst she blushed and made moaning noises.

    Yeah.

The only thing that could have redeemed the fourth OVA from being an utter Shark-jumping moment is The Major's speech that immediately followed, which is one of my favourite moments in the history of anime.

So really the most depressing death is that of the Hellsing anime?

Because that's pretty much what I got from it...

Well, it is up to the fourth OVA. I'm waiting for them to dub it before I watch the fifth. There aren't many dubs good enough to make me wait, but Hellsing is one of them.

But thus far, the only major characters who have died (not counting those who were immediately resurrected as Vampires) are, in order, Luke Valentine, Jan Valentine, Tubalcain Alhumbra and Rip van Winkle.

The first two were utterly awesome. The first proved just how frighteningly badass Alucard actually was, whilst the second was a burst of big dumb awesome explicit kickassness, and considering how the character lived that was fitting. The third was fine, but kinda uninteresting since we never really get attached to The Dandy Man. And the fourth... well, read up.

EDIT: I think I may have completely misunderstood what you meant there. Oh well, i've made a rant, so it's too late to turn back now.

    Uhh.

I guess I don't watch enough anime, or at least relevant anime. In Gunslinger Girl a girl killed her handler and herself, and it was pretty sad. I think it was in the first season, and I don't recall their names. xD
