    Phantasy Star Online

Okay, I've never been big on MMO's. Yeah I've played 'em, Ragnarok, WoW, Dofus, you name it, I've played it for a short time with my friends until they got bored. Some are good, some are not-so-good (WoW) but none of them really hold my interest. Well...maybe one.

That's right, Phantasy Star Online. This crowd isn't terribly young, so I'm sure I'm not the only one here who had a love affair with PSO. Some fantastic childhood memories with that game man. All of us cool kids played it. Okay, well, none of us were cool. We did play it though!

Who else here played PSO? Is,-godforbid- there someone here who has no idea what PSO is and needs us all to explain why his or her life is unfulfilled?

Also, does anyone here still play PSO? Since Sega got rid of it's PSO: Blue Burst servers they've pretty much admitted to not having any problem with the private server. I have Blue Burst on my PC, and suddenly got the urge to play it though I haven't played it in a long time. I'll probably just play around for a few minutes, but if someone wants to get on and play with me I could totally make some time for it. Also, if you need info on how to download it and get online (It has to be the private server, since the official servers are kaput.) Hit me up on messenger or PM.

    GAH!
THIS WAS MY ADDICTION FOR SO LONG!
I had this for GameCube, and (never played it online because I still don't know how to get a GC online) but I played it offline with my friend (MichaelBlake on TheOtaku) all the fucking time. I loved it.

Then my little brother left the disc in the floor and someone stepped on it.

I've only seen that one copy that I bought.
Blake found one that he bought, but i was never able to find a replacement for mine.

yeah, we used to play it offline on the gamecube too! So much good-nerd-times.

I don't have it in disc form, as things stand now. Luckily, you can just download Blue burst and play it on PC now.

Lessee, had it on the Dreamcast originally, played online like a MUH-fugga.
Then, the GC version came out, and I played that with... YOU. And Ian.
Had that level 80 Hunter (long live NAES) and was way too into playing that offline.
    Then, hiatus for a while.
Now, however, PSO: BB private server is what I play a good bit of.
If anyone needs assistance and Ryvius is too lazy/gay/ga-zy, feel free to PM me instead of him.
    I cannot be any clearer.
Take from this what you will, and please feel free to counter anything I have said with some opinions of your own. Which would strictly probably almost be an accepted algorithm essential to the construct and maintenance of a proper discussion.
    Just throwing that out there.

I played alot on Dreamcast, but then they all got it on GC and we all bought a memory card and played on GC.

I had a level 183 HUnewearlor whatever they're called. They're the tall guys who use rifles. I haven't played for a really long time.. maybe 5 years? My cousins used to play too. I played this alot lol.. I had tons of friends who played.

I believe that would be RAmar, my good Unclesatan. HUnewearl would be a female newman hunter, and they don't use rifles.

After looking over that last sentence of mine, I've realized I should leave my house more often.

If your determinated enough you can still play it on your Dreamcast like I did....until I realised I didn't like it and put it snugly back into it's blue & clear plastic case.
    HE WILL BE MISSED...

not only that, but there's no such thing as newman hunters! newmans can only be forces.

I played a bit with my FOmarl today. If I knew more people that still played, I could really get into PSO. In fact, I'm thinking about making a new ranger character. So if anybody wants to start playing and level up from scratch with me.....

I've been a player since it released on the Dreamcast. Level 100 on DC, HUnewearl. Quit the GC version when I sold the console at around 170~ with a RAmar. Played Blue Burst on SCHThack servers, dropped off that due to computer problems. I had a level 130-odd HUnewearl. Recently got into playing Blue Burst again on a friend's private server.

Well, then... guess this is another game to tack onto the checklist of RPGs I Shoulda Played. LOL.

It's not really an RPG in the sense of having a strong story. If you want a gripping RPG, you're looking in entirely the wrong place. "Online" holds its place in the name because the bulk of the game can only fully be enjoyed when playing with others. I've had so much fun playing with friends online, and that was one of the reasons this series has been a mainstay in my life. I think without that, it would never have held me in its thrall as long as it did.

You should totally get on the SCHThack server and play with me and Sean. =D.

Yeah though, I've never payed attention to the story at all. It's a fantastic game though. It's the only mmo that's ever held my attention.

btw, it's a little better with a keyboard (Particularly if you're a force) but still much more enjoyable if you have a gamepad. (The only thing I use the keyboard for is hotkeys.)

Well. It has a story, but to figure it out you really need to play through both episodes 1 and 2, and you need to accomplish certain criteria that are extremely well-hidden in order to come across them.

I have a very loose understanding of the story, and I've forgotten most of it. It seems like it was pretty interesting when I first played the game.

  15. #15
Yeah...unless you read up on it, loose is about the best you can hope for. One thing I will say though, is that none of the NPCs are as they seem...

Not least because in one of the quests in the Caves, there's a HUnewearl equipped with a rifle. XD

SCHThack is super great, even though I feel like most of the community is way too high leveled for me to have fun with. Well, work, work, work. Yo Ryvius, wanna play sometime?

I'd love to play sometime. I'll be home all day tomorrow. Hit me up.

I've actually had some success in forming low-level parties lately. It definitely is a problem though. You could make a party and title it "Low levels only please for the love of god no high levels" and there'd still be some level 89 jackass barreling through the entire forest killing everything in one hit going "I'M HELPING BY TAKING ALL THESE LOW LEVEL PEOPLE'S EXPERIENCE, DERF DERF DERF."

On the bright side though, at least there's a lot of friendly high-levels on there. It's not hard at all to find someone willing to take your fresh character to a high-level spot, or even just to give you free shit. A lot of people on there have so many high levels, that their common bank has more items than they need so they're eager to give them away.

    Holy fuck, I know right?
Just got done playing a mines/ruins/TTF game with a level 162.
After basically holding my hand for an hour or two, he THEN gave me two rares (hardcore handgun of some sort, and Comet something. Its description says it destroys enemies with countless blades). He healed, he tanked, he sliced, he diced, he was a total badass.
However, I intended it to be low level, but he was a biiig surprise.
We exchanged guild cards and he then promised me MORE weapons and a sweet MAG of some sort.
    I love that guy.

P.S. Earned, like, 5 levels to boot.

Yeah, I think part of it is that it's hard to find good players to play with regularly. So someone's probably more than willing to help a cool guy like you out for the chance to have a decent regular party member. Anyways, I'm probably about to play a bit right now.
