Theory i built recently, would like a arguement regarding it

alrighty, so i occasionally go really trippy and start thinking on completely unprovoked topics.
So today's topic is SLEEP.
Sleep is normally identified as a chance for your body to rest and for your mind to organize the events of the day. the former being noticed by feeling rested as you awaken, and the latter being noticed by Sleeping far to much when suffering from depression and the like.
Now, sleep is caused by a physical trigger as well as a mental trigger. However, the Physical trigger only truly hits us in cases of being K.O.'d by a blow or some other physical trauma. the other choices are a mental path, led by either choosing to slip into blissful oblivion, or lack of mental activity making us drop into it in a matter of seconds.
Now, from what i see by my logic is that Sleep would be a useless concept, should one manager to control their minds and relax their bodies on a set method.
If one could have a near perfect control of their perception of the world, and organize their thoughts, would that not remove almost all cause for sleep?
and if the trigger for removing the need for sleep is so simple as mastering ones mind and body, does that not open a world of possibilities for the night to no longer being the silent hours when normal people waste lying in a bed?
Now, i am not claiming that ALL sleep should be forgone, but the amount of sleep we use is.... disproportionate in comparison to how much work we actually do in a day.
SO. someone comment on here, and help shut this mindset down, so i can argue against it and refine my view of this.
because one day, when i have a job i dont need to bust my ass at every single day, i hope to attempt this in a safe and controlled way.
