Have you ever liked something so much...

That you just cannot believe there are people out there who don't like it?

Before I joined Final Fantasy Forums, I played FFX almost religiously. It's only recently that I've fallen out of my ritual of completing the game at least once a year since its release in the European market.

Final Fantasy Forums was my very first internet forum, and the only reason I joined it was because I wanted to find somewhere I could talk about FFX with other FFX fans, so you can imagine my reaction when I was immediately greeted by people sporting Sephiroth avatars and banging on about how much of a pussy Tidus was and how KAWAIIIIIII Cloud is. I spent the better half of my first few hours there raging and having my "FFX-3?" threads closed like a n00b.

The other day I actually overheard someone saying they bought the original MGS game for the PlayStation but immediately traded it in for Gran Turismo 2 because it "was shit". I waged a silent one-sided war in my head until he went away.

Seriously? Seriously?!

Did you even pay attention to what was happening or did you just not like the fact that you couldn't run around shooting everyone without being arse-raped for it? Don't like the way you start a shooter without a gun? How can you not find the fact that you can complete the whole game without killing anyone amazing? How can you not appreciate the intricate storyline and information rich cutscenes? How is sneaking around undetected not cool? How?!

Sometimes I just lose all faith in humanity.

I understand completely what you mean. I like a lot of high-difficulty games, and I hate it when people call games bad because they don't have the patience or skill to be good at them.

Devil's Advocate here: Games are games. Games are meant to entertain people. There is no sure-fire way to entertain someone (short of, you know, sex). If someone would rather drive a car really fast than sneak around in a box, that's their prerogative. And it's pretty low to think badly of someone because of that difference.

Unless they love Superman 64. Those people should be locked up.

Well old chap, there's a profound difference in disliking a game because it's not your style, or is too difficult, and calling a game "shit" because you can't get past level one. I don't really like racing games, but I wouldn't say a racing game is shit just because I don't like it.

True. But the above anecdote failed to mention that he said it was because of the difficulty. Maybe he finished the game and called it shit.Maybe he got halfway, but decided that he didn't want to play such a plot-heavy un-shooter. We don't really know, and it's unfair to judge based on what little evidence we have.

Omg, don't get me started on this. I admit there are things I don't like that others do, but I don't make every other post about how much I hate it, but so many people do this. I mean, just say it once, and move on. But I see the same users spout the same hate about the same thing over and over. Honestly, if I could, I'd just tell them "okay, you hate it, I get it - stfu" -_-

Have I mentioned how generic JRPGs have gotten lately?
